Melba Jean Slaughter passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025, suddenly after a long list of illnesses. She was the daughter of the late James Edward Batten and Shirley Ann Manning Carter.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Kagy Slaughter, Jr. and her brother, Casey Batten.

She is survived by three sons, Kagy Slaughter III, of Nicholls, Samual Ed Slaughter (Rachel), of Elgin, SC, and Stephen Isaac Slaughter (Terri), of Nicholls; one daughter, Anna Alisha Vickers (John), of Nicholls; nine grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11 AM in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Sister Julienne Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 AM until service time.

Active pallbearers include Kagy Slaughter IV, Kagy Slaughter III, Jonathon Difranciesco, Seth Vickers, Neio Slaughter, Richard Yarbourgh, and Kevin Kirkland.

Honorary pallbearer will be Roy McDaniel.
