Mildred Olene Thompson, age 89, of Alma died Tuesday morning March 21, 2017 at her home after a short illness. She was a native of Sylvester, Georgia but had lived in Alma since 1964. Mildred was daughter of the late Robert Bernard Brooks and Cora Davis Brooks and was also preceded in death by a brother Marvin Everett Brooks. She was a member of Alma First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years DeWitt Thompson of Alma, a son Mike Thompson (Beth) of Alma, a daughter Lisa Thompson of Alma, two grandchildren James Thompson (Elizabeth) of Cherryvale, Kansas, Stephanie Mercer (Kyle) of Baxley and three great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 o'clock at Alma First Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Brooks, Rev Steve Brooks and a eulogy delivered by James Thompson. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church Friday at 10:00 A M to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday evening between 6 and 9 P M.

Active pallbearers will be Leslie Deen, Sr., Jimmy Thompson, Jerry Boatright, Jerry Sweat, Linton Carter and Buster Meeks. Honorary will be Big Brothers Sunday School Class, Joy Sunday School Class and Ellen Deen.
