Millie Laverne Tyre Boatright, age 96, of Mershon passed away on June 17th at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Bacon County and daughter of the late Marion Cleveland Tyre and Sarah Ann Retta Hyers Tyre. Laverne was preceded in death by her husband Ray Whiddon Boatright, son, Dwight Whiddon Boatright, eight brothers, Bobby, Delmas (Minta) Tyre, Jennington "Skinny" (Loraine) Tyre, McCoy (Martha) Tyre, Feldon Tyre, Junius "Bark" Tyre, Kennon (Vera) Tyre, Earl Loran (Elizabeth) Tyre, one sister, Audice Tyre Starling (Aaron) and a daughter-in-law, Danneal Boatright. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Antioch WMU.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Wayne Boatright (Mary Sue) of Lawrenceville, GA. and Gregory Neal Boatright (Martha) of Alma, two daughters, Karen Retta Boatright Stacy (Michael) of McLean, VA. and Sherry LaFane Boatright Moore (James) of Woodleaf, NC., one sister, Sarah Illa Jean Cliett of Augusta, GA., a sister-in-law, Eva Mae Bryant Tyre of Blackshear, GA.; also 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 21st at Antioch Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Donnie Mullis and Rev. Calvin Courson officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday 6 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Antioch Baptist Church in Memory of Laverne Boatright.
Active pallbearers will be; Bryan Boatright, Jeff Grantham, Wesley Bryant, Glynnis Tyre, Bobby Wayne Hart and Archie Boatright. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
