Moody Dewitt Thompson, age 94, of Alma passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on October 27, 1924 in Worth County to the late William Joseph Thompson and Sarah Griffin Thompson. His wife of 69 years, Mildren Olene Brooks Thompson and four brothers, Benjamin Allison Thompson, L. S. Thompson, Oris Thompson and Marion Foy Thompson preceded him in death.Mr. Thompson was Owner and Operator of Red & White Grocery Store for many years, past president of the Lions Club, a member of the VFW Post 4625, The American Legion Post 69 and a member of Alma First Baptist Church; he also served in the US Army during WWII.
Survivors include two children, Mike Thompson and wife Beth and Lisa Thompson both of Alma, three sisters, Carolyn Moulder of Doraville, GA., Frances Anthony (Joe) of Lawrenceville, GA. and Martha Sorrells (Thomas) of Cleveland, GA., two grandchildren, James Thompson (Elizabeth) of Kansas and Stephanie Mercer (Kyle) of Baxley and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27 th at 11:00 AM at the Alma First Baptist Church with Mike Thompson, Rev. John Gibbs, and eulogy given by Stephanie Mercer. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 9 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or any Charitable organization of your choice.
Active pallbearers will be; Leslie Deen, Bentley Carter, Joe Boatright, Len Spires, Tommy Taylor, Eddie Crapps and Mike Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be; Big Brothers Sunday School Class, Joy Sunday School Class, Jay Williams, M. E. Smith, Tom Harris, Wayne Wilcox, Theo Clark, and Hospice Care Option Staff.
