Omi Gail Walden, age 76, of Alma, died Friday, July 23, 2021, in Savannah, Georgia. She was born December 25, 1945 in Nicholls, Georgia. She was daughter of Banner H. and Naomi (Thomas) Lee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-nine years, Ralph Edward Walden; brothers Archie Lee, Banner Lee, Aubrey Lee; sisters Lois Lee Lehmann and Kay Siegel.
Omi Gail is survived by her sister-in-law Martha Lee, nieces Ginger Schmidt and Anna Lehmann, and nephews Neal Lee, Darrell Page, and Benjamin Lehmann and well as sever grand nephews and nieces and one great-grand niece. She also leaves behind friends and her beloved cats and dogs.
Omi Gail was a graduate of Coffee County High School. She attended the University of Georgia and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1967. She was also a 1981 graduate of the Executive Marketing Management Program at Stanford University.
Ms. Walden had a noteworthy career as a public affairs and government relations specialist. Of special importance was her appointment and tenure as Assistant Secretary Conservation & Solar Applications United States Department Energy, Washington, 1978-1979 and Advisory to Secretary Conservation & Solar Marketing, 1979-1980, in the Carter Administration. She was a pioneer in renewable energy development and was a woman in government.
In addition, Ms. Walden was Assistant director of public relations at the Georgia Ports Authority, Savannah, 1968-1969; Director of public relations at the United States Housing and Urban Development Model Cities Program, Alma 1970-1973; Citizens participation coordinator, 1970; Director of research & evaluation, 1971-1972; Federal & State relations coordinator, policy advisor energy & environmental issues Former Governor Jimmy Carter and Governor George Busbee, Atlanta, 1973-1976; Director Georgia Office of Energy Resources, Atlanta, 1976-1978; Governor representative to President Intergovernmental Science, Engineering & Technology Advisory Panel, 1978; Executive director National Energy Management Institute, Washington; President of Omi Walden & Associates, a public affairs & government relations consultant firm.
A graveside service for Ms. Omi will be held at a later date.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
