Obituary

Opal Marie Taft, age 69, of Alma passed away Friday, January 2nd at Twin Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was a native of West Palm Beach, Florida but had lived in Bacon County for many years. Opal was daughter of late Hillary Bowen and Gladys Caver Bowen and preceded in death by her husband, Troy McAuthor Taft, brother, Clyde Bowen and a sister, Jessie Lumpkin. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include a son, Danny Taft of Douglas,two daughters, Shelia Taylor (Robert) of Alma and Michele Taft of Douglas, two sisters, Evelyn Bowers of Alma and Carolyn Burch of Pearson, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 5th at 2:00 PM at the Mormon Church in Alma with President Ricky McDowell and Elder Stevie Sermons officiating and a eulogy given by Elder Larry Hardee. Interment will follow in Little Utah Cemetery in Axson, Ga. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 9 PM.

Active pallbearers will be; Dustin, Jerid, Waylon, Ferrell and Anthony Taft and Chase Flowers. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
