Peggy Jean Whelchel, age 81, of Alma passed away May 25, 2023 at Memorial Satilla Health after an extended illness.  She was born September 10, 1941 in Fulton County, Georgia, daughter of the late Rex Lee and Janie LaFern Thigpen Lee. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Rex Lee.

Survivors include her children, Wanda Jean Whelchel of Alma and Thomas Allen Whelchel (wife Cathylene) of Covington; brother, William Walter Lee of Atlanta and sister, Pamela Graham of Alma.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
