Obituary

Rickey Carroll Waters, native of Nicholls, Georgia passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024, at the age of 66.  He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever be held dear by his family and friends.

Born and raised in the heart of South Georgia, throughout his life Rickey was known as a true outdoorsman. His lifelong passion for hunting and fishing was evident to all who knew him, as he often spent his days exploring the woods that surrounded him. Whether spending his time in those woods or casting his line in a quiet watering hole, Rickey found solace and joy in the beauty of nature and its bounty.  In addition to his passion for the great outdoors, Rickey had a deep love for the classic Western movies that captured the spirit of the American frontier. From the rugged landscapes to the timeless tales of courage and honor, he found joy and inspiration in the adventures of cowboys and outlaws.

However, amidst his countless adventures in the great outdoors, Rickey always made time for what mattered most to him: his family. For 47 wonderful years, he was the devoted husband to his beloved wife, Cindy Waters. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love, and their journey together was nothing short of remarkable.  Together they raised three children, daughter Heather Parrish, son Timothy (wife Michelle) Waters, and daughter Amanda (husband Ronnie) Downing.

Rickey was preceded in death by his parents Carroll Lee and Catherine Hutchinson Waters, his brother Ronnie Waters, and his beloved granddaughter Destiny Parrish.  Rickey is also survived by his brother Randy (wife Sybrena) Waters, sister Sandy (husband Bennie) Overstreet, and brother Russell Waters.

In addition to being a loving husband and father, Rickey was also a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren: Like a son, Trey Nix, Breanna Parrish, Maranda (husband Syles) Teston, Melissa Downing, Zachary Rewis, Macey Parrish, Shannon Waters, "Little" Ronnie Downing, and Amya Parrish. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, showering them with affection and wisdom. Whether it was teaching them how to bait a hook or telling tales of his outdoor adventures,

Rickey was a source of endless joy and inspiration to his grandchildren.  In addition to being a proud grandfather Rickey cherished his role as great-grandfather to Mason, Myla, S.J., Landon, Payton and Rylo.  Even a twelve-point buck sitting in his sites couldn't make him happier than seeing the smiles on their precious faces.

Beyond his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Rickey was a friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile, gentle demeanor, and genuine kindness touched the lives of countless individuals throughout the community. He will be remembered not only for his love of the outdoors, and his family, but also for his unwavering generosity and compassion towards others.

As we mourn the loss of Rickey, let us also celebrate the incredible life that he lived and the profound impact that he had on those around him. Though he may no longer walk among us or wander in the woods he so cherished, his spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
