Robert Holton, age 95, of Alma passed away on January 21, 2016 at Baptist Village Retirement Community in Waycross, GA. He was a life long resident of Alma, GA but spent the last nine months at Baptist Village.
He is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Holton of Alma, a daughter, Diane Bennett (Ches) of Alma and three grandchildren, Rachel Ellis (Darrell), Risa Arney (Bill), and Rob Bennett all of Alma, GA. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Lily and Madi Ellis, Bennett and Jarrett Arney. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Catherine Edwards of Spartanburg, SC. and several nephews and nieces.
He was born in Alma, GA on October 14,1920. He was son of William R. Holton and Yancy Swilling Holton. He was preceded in death by beloved and beautiful wife of 72 years, Sara Ann Couch Holton, an infant son, and two brothers, Samuel Eugene and Charles Wesley Holton.
He led a very active life and was a very hardworking man with many interests. He served as a medic in World War II. He worked with Satilla Rural Electric Membership Corporation until retirement. He loved sports and music. After retirement he was active in volunteer work with the Blood Bank, singing with the Twin Oaks singing group to entertain residents. He was also active in the VFW, and American Legion. He owned and managed rental properties for many years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Alma. He was very active in his younger years as a deacon and helper with Royal Ambassadors. He also loved singing in the church choir.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23rd at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Jerald Douglas and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until funeral time. The burial will be private for the family at a later time.
Honorary pallbearers will be; retired Satilla Rural Electric Membership Corporation employees, VFW and American Legion members, the Twin Oaks singing group, Sarah and Danny Cauley and Jerald Douglas.
Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations may be to the building fund of First Baptist Church Alma or to the Gideons International.
