Roy F. Tanner, age 78, of Columbus passed away Tuesday, May 29th at Columbus Hospice after a short illness. He was a native of Bacon County but had lived most of his life in Columbus, GA. Roy was son of the late Amos Tanner and Rita Rigdon Tanner; his first wife; Lera Jarrard Tanner, one brother, James O. Tanner and a sister, Marlene Tanner preceded him in death. He served in the US Air force during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Annette Fraser Tanner of Columbus, GA., one son, Michael (Mike) Roy Tanner (Kathy) of Columbus, GA., one daughter, Dr. Beth Tanner Tappan (Hugh) of Wichita, KS., one brother, Dub Tanner of Dixie Union, GA.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1st at 11:00 AM at Big Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Myron Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday evening between the hours of 6 and 9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 4th at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.
