Ruby Jean Strickland, age 71,of Alma died at the Bacon County Hospital Wednesday afternoon January 29th, 2014 after a short illness. She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late John Marion Holton and Annie Lee Mims Holton and was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Dean Strickland, a sister, Hazel Holton, two brothers, Francis Marion (Sonny) Holton, LaDon Holton, a brother-in-law, Rev. Roger Taylor, a sister-in-law, Willene Holton. Ruby Jean was a1960 graduate of Bacon County High School, retired as Administrative Assistant from the Department of Family and Children Services after 20 years of employment, a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include a son, Dean Strickland (Kristi) of Alma, a sister, Annie Ruth Taylor of Alma, sisters-in-law, Nina Holton of Alma, Frances Strickland Cliett of Douglas, three grandchildren, Anna Lee Strickland, Tristan Robert Strickland and Addison Hope Strickland all of Alma.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Johnson and Rev. Lance Wade officiating and eulogy by Chad Holton. Interment will follow at Mims Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the First Baptist Church Friday evening between 6 and 9 P M.

Active pallbearers will be, Chad, Lawson and David Johnson, Vic and Taylor Power, Dean Strickland, Jackie Cliett and Franklin McDonald. Honorary will be members of the Class of 1960, Dr. Clay Carter and Staff, past and present employee's of the Department of Family and Children Services, staff of Bacon County Hospital, members of the Seekers Sunday School Class, staff of the Alma-Bacon County Emergency Medical Services and Wayne Wilcox.
