Seward Turner, age 88, of Mershon passed away Tuesday, March 3rd at his residence after a short illness. He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Joe L. Turner and Martha Lula Watson Turner. Seward was preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Claude, Donald, Horace and Ulus Turner, three sisters, Lillie Turner, Lillian Gillis, Lovie Dixon and a step-daughter, Dea Smith. He was a retired Farmer and Electrician was a member of the American Legion and served in the US Army.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Shirley Boatright Turner of Mershon, two daughters, Lana Turner Bell (Jeffery) and Lara Yawn (Joey "Dude") of Mershon, one brother, E. D. Turner (Pauline) of Alma and 2 grandchildren, Turner Bagley and Lilly Yawn of Mershon.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6th at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. R. B. Gaskins officiating and Eulogy given by Linda Miles. Interment will follow in Damascus Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Mark Gillis, Marty Hilton, Ricky Turner, Denny Dixon, J. R. Miles and Jackson Miles. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
