Sharon D. Byars, age 66, of Alma passed away suddenly at her daughter's house in Midway, Georgia on Sunday, October 16th. She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Fred M. Douglas and Eula Johnston Douglas and preceded in death by a brother, Danny Douglas. Sharon worked in Administrative Support at Waycross Public Health Laboratory for 15 years as well as working with the Bacon County Board of Education as a Bus Driver for 15 years, was a beautician for many years and was a member of Lee's Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, W. Gary Byars of Alma, two daughters, Heather Byars of Midway, GA. and Liza Byars and partner Tracy Maxwell of Savannah, GA., one brother, Don Douglas (Karen) of Alma, two sisters, Sandra Deen (Jimmy) of Alma and Shirley Lipsey (Ron) of Adele, GA.; also a special niece, Kayla Andrews and uncle Henry Kight (Johnnie) of Alma.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19th at 2:00 PM at Lee's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Delk, Rev. Mike Lee and Rev. Jerald Douglas officiating. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 Wednesday to lie in state. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Robbie Johnson, Kevin Hall, Clay Deen, Scott Byars, Jon Lipsey and Carl Leggett. The Class of 1968 will serve as honorary escorts.
