Shirley Harrison
Shirley Harrison, age 83, passed away at Bacon County Hospital on December 30, 2020 after a short illness. She was born in Bacon County on October 28, 1937 to Grady and Lois Milliken Boatright. Mrs. Harrison was an excellent seamstress, retiring from Oxford Industries of Alma. She was a member of Coffee Wesleyan Church and served faithfully for 63 years in various positions including Secretary/Treasurer for Sunday school and as a song leader, but most importantly as a prayer warrior who early on was known to meet with others at the church during the week for dedicated prayer, intercession, and petition. She also labored to fulfill her Great Commission to reach the lost by serving faithfully in the Wesleyan Women's Missionary Society. Mrs. Harrison also served her community, if there was ever a need or loss of a loved one she would show up with a trunk load of home cooked food. For many years she was also a caregiver for many family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Clyde Harrison; two brothers, Freddie Boatright and Cash Boatright; and one sister, Laverne Thompson. Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Rainey (Glenn), Brenda Barber (Ed), and Sandra Sasser (Kimmie) all of Alma; one brother, Ronnie Boatright (Julie) of Fernandina, FL.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Sunday January 3, 2021 at 2:00 at Friendship UMC in the Coffee Community with the Reverends Sheldon Rowell, Stanley Sandiford, and Glenn Rainey officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Ashley Rainey, Jason Barber, Joe Barber, Justin Barber, and Keaton Sasser.
