Shirley Ione Taylor, age 85, of Alma passed away April 1, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent's Hospital after a short illness. She was born June 14, 1938, in Bacon County to the late Ed Barber and Mollie Boatright Thrift.
Mrs. Taylor was a native of Alma, GA, raised on a tobacco farm outside of town. She moved to Jacksonville in the late 50s, where she raised her children with her husband of 55 years. After her family, her true love was working in her beloved flower gardens and hosting her extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Taylor; sons, Wendell Taylor, Dale Taylor and Eddie Taylor; brother, Jack (Winona) Barber and sisters, Rhudean (Paul) Mann, Delcie (Robert) Kight and Betty (Ray) Metz. Mrs. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Peggy Williams and Gayle Anderson, both of Jacksonville, FL; and is the beloved Granny of 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great- great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at the cemetery from 10:00 AM until service time.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
