Rev. Sidney V. (Possum) Thomas, Jr., age 70, of Nicholls died suddenly Friday November 13th, 2015. He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Sidney Thomas, Sr. and Myrtice Herrin Thomas and was preceded in death by two brothers Roger and Mickey Thomas and four grandchildren. Possum retired from the Douglas and Nicholls Police and Fire Departments and also worked as an E M T. He served in the U S Army and was founder and current Pastor of the Hope Holiness Church in Nicholls.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Annette Revels Thomas of Nicholls. Two sons Larry Hersey of Nicholls and Perry Thomas of Nahunta, two daughters Tammy Ramirez (Barney), Vickie Hampton (Jeff) of Nicholls, a brother Bernard Thomas (Audrey) of Douglas, a sister Rita Sanders (Lamar) of Eastman. Also 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 o'clock at Hope Holiness Church in Nicholls with Rev. Carl Danny Hersey and Rev. Eddie Burkett officiating. Interment will follow in Roberts Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6 and 9 P M. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 P M Monday to lie in state.
Active pallbearers will be Rodney Cothern, Billy Taylor, Ramiro Ramirez, Joey, Danny and Gwen Thomas. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
