Obituary

Stanley Barto Thomas, age 81, of Nicholls passed away at Summer Landing Retirement Home after an extended illness. He was a native of Coffee County and son of the late Walter Julian Thomas and Lexie Thomas Thomas; his wife Betty Nell Stevens Thomas preceded Stanley in death. Stanley retired as Captain in the U.S. Marines after 21 years, he served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era where he received many Medals & Decorations, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, MC Good Conduct Medal with 1 Star, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Star, Korean Service Medal with 2 Stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Stars, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and he also retired from the US Postal Service. He was a member of Wesley Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church where he was served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Leader of the Men's Sunday Classes.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra Angelia Lee (Steve) of Douglas, Brenda Sue Henderson (Randy) of Anchorage, AK., and Sharon Beth Helms of Waycross, two brothers, Tommy Thomas (Kay) of Kingsland, GA. and Wesley Thomas (Judy) of Brunswick, GA., four sisters, Joyce Cayler of Brunswick, GA., Josephine Harper of Fitzgerald, GA., Glenda Allnoch of Statesboro, GA. and Frances Tatum of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.; also 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22nd at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Rigdon and Rev. George O'Berry officiating. Interment will follow in Wolf Pit Cemetery with full military honors. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral one hour before the funeral. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project PO BOX 758517 Topeka, KS 66675.

The Marines will serve as active pallbearers. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
