Obituary

Thomas Henry Metts, age 91, of Mershon passed away Monday, May 9th at the Pierce County Nursing Home after a short illness. He was son of the late Homer Metts and Lessie Boatright Metts. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Vivian Hipps Metts, a daughter, Shirleen Strickland, sister, Thetis Bryson and four brothers, Eugene, Don, Ronnie and Jerry "Mann" Metts. He was a retired farmer, a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served in the US Army.

Survivors include a son, Tommy Metts and wife Rhonda of Mershon, five sisters, Eteen Herndon of Baxley, Faye Howell (Tommy) of Blackshear, Jean Clark and Sue Smith (John) of Bristol and Faye Tucker (Royce) of Jacksonville, FL., a son –in-law, John Earl Strickland of Blackshear, seven grandchildren, Kevin Metts (Brandi), Will Metts (Candi), Nancy Boatright (Duward), Betsy Davis (Lance) Kyra Metts, Candis "Missy" Metts and John Strickland, III (Leanne); also 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 12th at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Ray, Rev. R. B. Gaskins and Rev. Calvin Courson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bristol Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday, May 11th from 6 to 9 PM.

Active pallbearers will be; John Strickland, Kevin, Cody and Will Metts, Duward Boatright and Lance Davis. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
