Master Sargent Troy Ray Rushing was born September 10, 1948 and raised in Monroe, LA. He joined the Army at a young age to proudly serve his country. He continued his military service in the Georgia Air National Guard for 20 years and was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He lived in Alma many years before moving to the Deen’s Landing Community in Baxley. He retired from the Georgia Air National Guard 224th Communications Division and The Southern Company. Mr. Rushing later worked for and retired from the Appling County Board of Commissioners as well.

Troy was an avid fisher and hunter. He and Linda loved living near the river where he built their forever home. They enjoyed camping during their retirement years and could always be found together working in their yard.

Master Sergeant Rushing was a man of few words but a mighty presence when in his company. He was a very talented carpenter and loved spending time in his shop.

He passed away February 26, 2026 at Lakeview Retirement Center after an extended illness and was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Tanner Rushing; parents, Lynn Okley and LaVerne Rushing; and a brother, Bruce Rushing. Recently, his family extended to the staff of Lakeview Retirement Center, Regency Hospice, Chandra Mosby and Deborah Davis-Ibe who all took great care of Troy in recent years.
