Jarrard
March 22, 1932 – May 22, 2025
Walter Huston Jarrard, age 93, lived in Bacon County all his life. He died peacefully at home Thursday morning, May 22, 2025. He was the son of the late Ransey and Lomie Jarrard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Lera Jarrard
Tanner.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Wilda Jarrard; three children - Ricky Jarrard (Shirley) of Green Sea, SC, Pam Johnson (Mark) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Doug Jarrard (Connie) of Alma; five grandchildren - Christina Jarrard of Conway, SC, Dawn Bryan (John) of St. Marys, GA, Jennifer Holt (Allen) of Lake Park, GA, Adam Jarrard (Lori) of Richmond Hill, GA, Joey Jarrard (Laurie) of Tallahassee, FL., and Scott Jarrard of Hazlehurst, GA; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Delama Crosby of Alma; two brothers, Henry Jarrard(Joyce) of Alma, and Norman Jarrard (Fran) of Dudley, GA; a close daughter-in-law Melissa Jarrard, a close niece, Beth Tappan (Hugh) of Charleston, SC, and many other nieces and nephews.
Huston retired from Satilla REMC after 42 ½ years where he served as the Supervisor of Bookkeeping. He was a member and longtime Treasurer of Big Creek Baptist Church. He was a Quarter Master in the US Army during the Korean War and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 69. Huston loved his horse "Dude", dog "Buddy", and his cows along with working in the garden.
Special thanks to Maurice Scott, who not only worked with Huston for many years, but she also always got the girls and guys together to go out to eat on Huston's birthday and kept everyone in contact up until his passing.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, May 24 at 11 am at Big Creek Church Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Lee, Gene Vickers and Reverend David Miller officiating. The active pallbearers will be Adam Jarrard, Joey Jarrard, John Bryan, Brooks Bryan, Allen Holt and Jeffrey Thomas.
