Obituary

Rev. Walter R. Shuman, age 85, of Lakeland, Georgia died suddenly at the Louis Smith Memorial Hospital in Lakeland, Georgia Saturday October 13th, 2012 after a short illness. He was a native of Jeff Davis County, son of the late Elsie Shuman and Mattie Hughes Shuman and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Faye Lewis Shuman, a son, Paul Michael Shuman, two brothers, G L and J B Shuman, five sisters, Beatrice Cobb, Addie Scott, Adel Scott, Aleph Merrit and Mabel Mitchell. Rev. Shuman was a Church of God Minister for 48 years serving many Churches around the state of Georgia before retiring from the Alma Southside Church of God where he served from 1992 to 1998. He was a veteran of WW II while serving in the U S Army. Survivors include two sons, Stan Shuman and wife Kitty of Cocoa, FL, Tim Shuman and wife Velda of Lakeland, Georgia, a brother, Jim Marcus Shuman of Folkston, Georgia, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Alma Southside Church of God with Rev. Mark Carver and Rev. Wayne Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery in Jeff Davis County. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 P M Tuesday to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday evening between 7 and 9 P M.

Active pallbearers will be, Troy, Oral and Walt Shuman, Phil Merritt, Rudy Scott and Ronald Cobb. All others will be considered as honorary pallbearers.
