Warnie Lewis, age 92, of Alma died at his home Friday February 27th, 2015 after a short illness. He was a native of Coffee County but had lived in Bacon County most of his life. He was son of the late Reuben Lewis and Maggie Rigdon Lewis and was also preceded in death by a son, Jamie Lewis, four brothers, Otis, Nanny, Tommy and Gene Lewis, three sisters, Laura Bell Carter, Clara Mae Deen and Lois Wheeler and a granddaughter, Tanya Mullis. Warnie was a farmer and attended Dry Creek Baptist Church in Nicholls.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris Taylor Lewis of Alma, a son, Brookie Lewis (Annette) of Alma, two daughters, Betty Ann Ellis (Michael) and JoEllen Mullis (Jeffery) all of Alma, a brother, Mark Lewis of Alma, a sister, Vallaree Boyer of Jacksonville, FL, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one step-great-grand daughter and one special great-grand daughter, Paige Lewis, bothers-in-law, Edison Deen (Myrtice) of Alma and Buddy Floyd (Evalina) of Blackshear.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 o'clock at Dry Creek Baptist Church in Nicholls with Rev. George O'Berry, Rev. David Davis and Rev. Tommy Ridgon officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6 and 9 P M. The body will be carried to the church Monday at 1:00 P M to lie in state.
Active pallbearers will be, Cody Lewis, Danny Burch, Roy Carter, Burtis Carter,Al Jacobs and Tony Hardenbrook. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
