Obituary

Retired Master sergeant Waylon Cribb, 82, of Alma passed away Thursday morning, October 17, 2024 at Bacon County Hospital in Alma.  He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie Marie Mims Cribb

Born December 22nd, 1941, he was the son of the late Oliver Cribb and Okella Thomas Cribb. He grew up in Alma and, at age 17, joined the U.S. Army.

Mr. Cribb was stationed at various locations during his military career including Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Ft. Stewart in Hinesville, Germany, and Vietnam, among other locations. Mr. Cribb was a Purple Heart recipient of the Vietnam War and retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years. Mr. Cribb came home to Alma and retired from a second career at Western Auto where he was known as "the big guy with the deep voice".  Mr. Cribb was well known for his love for God, his family, and his country, as well as his generosity, his kindness, and his care and concern for others. He was of the Church of God faith for many years and was currently a member of the Living River Church of God.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cribb was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Jackie Marie Mims Cribb, four brothers, W.H., Lanier, Gary, and Roy Cribb, and three sisters, Ellene Faulk, Frances Phillips, and Clara Randleman.

Mr. Cribb is survived by two children, his son, Eddie Cribb of Alma, and his daughter, Teresa (R.B.) Gaskins of Mershon, one sister, Glenda Hilton of East Dublin, a sister-in-law, Betty Bailey Cribb of Albany, six grandchildren: Shane (Lesley) Gaskins of Mershon, Stacy Gaskins of Tampa, Elizabeth Gaskins of Mershon, Matt (Stephanie Boatright) King of Hazlehurst, Joel King of Vidalia, and Julie (Trevor) Rentz of Vidalia, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Jerry (Londie) Mims of Alma, many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Bishop R. B. Gaskins officiating.  The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour before the funeral.

Interment will follow in Mims Church Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny Thrift, Shane Gaskins, Brody Boatright, Chris Carver, Reese Cothern and Allen Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Alma VFW and Paul Deen

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
