Obituary

Wayne Lamar Barber, 68, of Alma, Georgia, passed away on August 24, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born on October 3, 1957. Throughout his life, he worked as a mechanic in his own shop and drove big trucks, but the role that meant the most to him was simply being there for the people he loved.

Wayne was easygoing, funny, generous, and fiercely devoted to his family. He had a way of making people laugh and was always someone you could count on. If you needed help, Wayne was there, and he truly was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without thinking twice.

He enjoyed racing, fishing, working on things, spending time with his family, and making trips to Florida. Above all else, Wayne loved his family, and there was a particularly special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

Wayne was not only a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. To many of his nieces and nephews, he was like a second father. His love and influence extended far beyond his immediate family, and the impact he had on those he loved will continue for generations.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Norma Jean Barber; his sons, Danny Barber and his wife, Stephanie, and Randy Barber; his grandchildren, Brady and Colton; his brother, Larry Barber and his wife, Diane; and his sister, Glenda Barber.

He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Larry (Julie), Terry (Tiffany), Lee, Daphne (Marcus), Lisa (Tommy), Jaime (Robert), Gary (Danna), and Brutus (Crystal), along with many great-nieces and great-nephews whom he loved dearly.

Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Doreen Martin; stepfather, Rod Martin; father, Bobby Barber; and brother, Gary Barber.

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Wayne leaves behind a family who will remember not only how hard he fought, but how well he loved. His humor, generosity, easygoing nature, and unwavering willingness to be there for his family will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Friendship Church in Alma, Georgia.

Visitation for close family will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by public visitation at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Wayne was deeply loved, and his absence will be felt by more people than he probably ever realized. His family will carry his laughter, his stories, and the way he loved them for the rest of their lives.
