Wayne Williams, age 85, of Alma died Sunday May 16,2021, at his residence after a short illness.  He served as the Fire Chief of the Bacon County Fire Department for 34 years, Mayor of the City of Alma for 4 years, and deputy coroner of Bacon County for many years. He was a native of Appling County and the son of the late Ira Lingo and Mollie Ann Aycock Williams. He is also preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean Williams, a son Jimmy Williams, a daughter Marie Farrior, 4 brothers, Warren, Hank, Winnard, and Billy Williams, and 2 sisters, Eudale Sweeny and Queechie Long.

Survivors include a son Jeff Williams (Kimberly) of Alma, 2 daughters Jackie Jones (Kenny) of Folkston and Jennifer Johnson (Lane) of Alma, a son in law David Farrior of Waycross, a daughter in law Dale Williams of Alma, 7 grandchildren, Chris Williams (Rebecca), Brian Tarrou, Kyle Williams (Erica), Justin Jones, Caitlin Burrier, Kalie Johnson, and Gracie Johnson and 4 great grand children Bailey Williams, Nolan Wayne Williams, Matthew Lawrence, and Corbin Lawrence.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 19, 2021 at the Alma Church of God at 11 AM with Rev. Travis Peavy officiating. Joe Boatright will give a eulogy and full-retired firefighters honors will be given. Active pallbearers include members of the firefighters honor guard.  Honorary pallbearers include all public safety personnel, Jay and Stephen Williams, and Richard Foskey.

The family will be receiving friends in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home Tuesday night from 6-9 PM.
