Winnie Lou Burkett Hayes, age 89, of Alma passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Coffee County on March 27, 1929 to the late Elmer Burkett and Avie Brantley Burkett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy "Junior" L. Hayes, son, Rev. Wayne Hayes, three brothers, Buddy, Warren and Edward Brukett and three sisters, Weider Adelsburger, Wilda Faulker and Martha Andrews. Mrs. Hayes was a member of New Vision Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Wendell Hayes of Alma, a brother, Wallace Burkett (Ernie) of Yulee, FL., 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12 th at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Hayes and Rev. Mark Carver officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; George Yearty, Allen Ahl, Toby Reeves, Braden Kildow, Jason Taylor, Sam Taylor and Kayson Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be; Betty Taylor, Linda Varnadore, Shirley Roberts and Mary Gray, Marcella Manalo and Jenny Harden.
Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
