Winnie Dennell (NELL) Simmons, age 71, of Alma died Saturday evening May 18th, 2013 at her home after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Samuel Wright Simmons and Mattie McClellan Simmons, preceded in death by two brothers, James Donal Simmons and Edward Dewey Simmons, a sister, Lillie Donna Simmons Griffin. Nell worked with the Bacon County School System for 27 years, was a member of the Red Hat Society, Bacon County Senior Citizens and New Vision Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Troy Darrell Simmons of Alma, Cecil Dewane Simmons (Bobbie) of Townsend, GA, three sisters, Dixie Doris S. Griffin (Edward) of Bainbridge, GA, Sadie Dorene S. Griffin Mills (Pete), Martha Dianne Simmons of Alma, two sisters-in-law, Martha Hall Simmons and Doreata Smart Simmons Holland of Alma.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock at New Vision Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Pet Hayes and Rev. Vic Peacock officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6 and 9 P M. The body will be carried to the church at 3:00 P M Monday to lie in state.

Active pallbearers will be, Marvin (Bubba) Simmons, Keith Simmons, Scott Simmons, Derek Simmons, Allen Griffin and Daniel Griffin. All others in attendance will be honorary escort.
